Earl Fowlkes Re-elected as Stein Democrats President
On Nov. 14, members of the Gertrude Stein Democratic Club held officer elections. Earl Fowlkes was reelected as president. He will be joined by a new board:
Paul Austin, vice president for legislative and political affairs
Alex Morash, vice president for administration
Justin K. George, treasurer
Jesse Garcia, secretary
Earl Fowlkes is a longtime member of the Democratic Party. In 2009, he was appointed as an at-Large member of the Democratic National Committee. In 2013, Earl was reappointed and elected chair of the DNC LGBT Caucus. Earl works for the Center For Black Equity, Inc. As CBE president/CEO, he promotes a multinational network of Black LGBT Pride and community-based organizations. Earl has worked on health, political and LGBTQ issues for nearly 30 years.
Paul Austin has been a GSDC member since 2013. He conducts neuroscience research and analysis in the Anatomy Department at the Howard University College of Medicine. Paul has a biology degree from the University of the District of Columbia and a political science degree from The University of Texas at Dallas.
Alex Morash has been a GSDC member since 2015. He works an economic policy researcher for a non-profit progressive center. Alex is a past president of Young Democrats of Rhode Island and has been working in party politics since 2010. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political economy at Northeastern University.
Justin K. George has been a GSDC member since 2005. He works as an IT manager at a multinational firm working with financial services organizations. Justin graduated from Howard University with an accounting degree.
Jesse Garcia joined GSDC in 2012. He worked for 20 years in communications, most recently as an Obama appointee. Jesse studied communications in San Antonio, Texas, where he earned a bachelor's degree from Our Lady of the Lake University and a master's degree from St. Mary's University.
GSDC officers are responsible for the management, fundraising, and operations of the organization. These officers constitute the Stein executive committee, which helps facilitate activities including social and political events for the membership and for the District’s LGBTQ Democratic community.
